Not only is the price right, but there really isn't any competition on the market for a device like this. Most of the products are RF controlled. My specific application required it to be IR controlled. I installed a lamp behind my HDTV as that is what experts suggest to avoid eye strain when watching in a dark room and to add a 'better' picture effect, so I just put a cheap lamp desk base with a 6500K bulb, however I wanted to control it ON and OFF with my Harmony remote, so this Plug Adapter did the trick. It works flawlessly every time. Besides, there are one universal socket and two US sockets, connecting up to 3 appliances. And the instructions help me lot during my using it. Highly recommended!

You just program it to whatever IR signal to turn it ON and OFF, so as part of my Harmony remote macro, whenever i want to watch TV it will turn the backlight on and whenever I turn all components OFF it will turn my backlight OFF.
